Why raw?

Pasteurization was a very necessary solution to an 18th century issue. Since then, we’ve come a long way in learning the proper protocols for udder sanitization and safe milk-handling. Raw milk contains many wonderful nutrients, probiotics and enzymes that aid in digestion! It is rich, creamy and tastes so much better than anything you can buy in the store.

Why goats?

My middle child, Lana, was born with a milk protein allergy and was unable to tolerate my breast milk if I consumed any cow-based dairy. She would cry her eyes out and even broke out in a rash all over her body. That was a very long month trying to figure out what was going on! Once I cut out dairy, she was a happy baby. I however, really missed having that in my diet so after doing a ton of research I stumbled upon goat’s milk. The protein in cow’s milk (A1) is not present in goat’s milk so many with an allergy to that specific protein are able to digest goat’s milk without issue. In addition, it’s lower in lactose and higher in nutrients. We made the switch and have never looked back. Our herd consists of 10 milkers, 5 juniors and 4 boys!

Why herd-share?

In Virginia, it’s illegal to sell raw milk outright. A perfectly LEGAL way to have raw milk is through herd-share! Here is how it works;

To buy a single share it costs $40. This is a one-time buy-in fee that you receive back if/when you ever decide to stop. There is also a monthly cost to board and care for the herd. As a shareholder you participate in that cost. $40 per month entitles the owner to 1/2 gallon of milk each week. Occasionally in months of abundance chevre (soft goat cheese) or cajeta (goat milk caramel sauce) may be included. Owners can purchase the number of shares needed to ensure the supply they want. We also offer half shares (one quart per week) for $30 each month.

Chevre (soft goat cheese)

I offer porch pick up at my home in Kents Store (Louisa county) and payment is due by the fist pick up of the month or by the 10th (whichever comes first). No long term commitment is needed. You can cancel anytime, return the glass container I provide, and I will buy back your share. Please allow 2 weeks notice for cancellation.

Let us know if you’d like to come by, meet the girls, and sign up! Herd-shares are currently full, but will be open again in middle of June 2022 when some of our baby goats head to their new homes!! Please visit the contact us page and send us a message!

Thanks so much,

Ashley
